🤝 Tallahassee Greenlights TMH Deal With FSU | Tal Dem
The Tallahassee City Commission voted 3–2 to approve the transfer of the city-owned hospital assets to Florida State University.

  • During a third and final public hearing on March 11, the vote marked a historic shift in Tallahassee’s healthcare system, moving Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) into a partnership led by FSU to build a major academic health center and expand access to specialized healthcare and research in North Florida.

  • The plan is to develop an academic medical center called FSU Health, combining clinical care, medical education, and research. TMH will continue operating the hospital while leasing the facility from FSU.

  • FSU will pay the city about $109M over a 30-year period for the hospital assets. The university also plans to invest $250M in short-term improvements and $1.7B in long-term investments in the hospital and broader health system.

GEOPOLITICS

🌎 Geopolitics: Risk and Opportunity | Economic Club of Florida via YT

  • James Stavridis is a retired four-star U.S. Navy admiral who served as the 16th Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and led major international military operations. After his military career, he became an author, security analyst, and Vice Chair of Global Affairs at The Carlyle Group. Note: This lunch took place on Feb. 17th.

  • 💡 Key Takeaways:

    • Geopolitics drives the global economy: Political decisions, wars, sanctions, and alliances influence markets and supply chains. Investors and businesses must monitor geopolitical events, not just economic data.

    • Political risks can disrupt supply chains: International conflicts and trade restrictions can quickly reshape global supply chains. Companies respond by moving production or diversifying suppliers through strategies like friend-shoring and near-shoring.

    • Geopolitical risk can create opportunities: Global tensions can open new markets, partnerships, and investment opportunities, particularly in defense technology, energy independence, and strategic resources.

    • Geopolitics is no longer just politics—it’s a central factor in economics and business strategy. The world is becoming more fragmented and uncertain, so companies and investors must treat geopolitical risk as a core part of decision-making.
