CRAFTING HOPE

🧶 TMH Patient Crochets Hats for Cancer Survivors | WTXL
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) patient Karna Bentley has been crocheting for over 70 years, and now she’s using that passion to bring comfort to fellow cancer patients.
Since May, she’s crafted more than 30 handmade hats, with 7 donated in the first week of August alone to the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center.
A cancer survivor herself, Bentley stitches hope into every hat, even adding her contact information so recipients can reach out. Her message to fellow cancer patients: “Don’t give up hope.”

🍴 Tallahassee’s Food Glorious Food Welcomes Chef Katie Spetman | Tal Dem
The award-winning Food Glorious Food (FGF) is starting a new chapter with Katie Spetman as its executive chef.
Having trained at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, Spetman spent nine years as the executive chef at the Florida Governor’s Mansion and has led the kitchen at Table 23 Tally (formerly The Front Porch), among other stints.
Earlier this year, Spetman co-hosted the celebrated Damas pop-up dinners at Goodwood Museum & Gardens alongside sommelier Amanda Morrison and pastry chef Sylvia Gould, an all-women culinary production that drew rave reviews.
“For a long time, there were really no other women in hospitality in Tallahassee,” Spetman said. “So it was so important to build networks with each other for advice, support, and encouragement.”
