🫡 Tallahassee to Host MLK Day Parade and Celebration

  • In tribute to the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the City of Tallahassee, alongside partnering agencies and community organizations, will host the annual MLK Day Parade and free celebration MLK Weekend events on Jan. 19th.

  • Parade: It’ll begin at noon and travel along Monroe St. downtown from Tennessee St. to Apalachee Pkwy. Following the parade, the community is invited to enjoy festivities along Adams St., featuring activities, guest speakers, performances and music by DJ L-Smooth. The City’s annual Day of Dialogue will take place at City Hall, 300 S. Adams St.

  • FSU’s MLK Week, running from Jan. 14th to 20th, has celebrated the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for more than 3 decades. The Distinguished Service Award will be announced during FSU’s annual MLK Commemoration Celebration.

  • FAMU’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation will take place tomorrow at 10:10 AM in the Al Lawson Center. All classes will be suspended during the event.

FSU and FAMU Universities Saw Increase in Early Applications For the Fall 2026 Semester. | Tal Dem

  • Thousands of students are beginning their college journeys at Florida State and Florida A&M Universities, with early applications already rolling in for Fall 2026.

  • According to the Enrollment Management Office, FAMU received 12,930 early action applications, marking a 6% increase over last year.

    • Early Action lets students apply early and get an admission decision sooner.

    • During Early Action, FAMU received 4,302 in-state applications and 8,572 from out-of-state students, nearly double the in-state total. Of those admitted, 1,361 were from Florida and 1,607 from out of state.

  • According to the Office of Admission, FSU saw a record early application total of about 33,700, ultimately accepting 12,900 students.

  • FAMU’s second round of acceptances will be on March 12th, while FSU’s next round, open to both in-state and out-of-state students, will be on Feb. 12th.
