🤝 FSU and TMH Partner to Establish Academic Health Center. | FSU News
Florida State University (FSU) and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) have formally approved a landmark agreement to create a world-class academic health center in Tallahassee, marking a transformative step for health care, education, and research in North Florida.
Under the agreement, TMH’s 75-acre property and 2M sq. ft. hospital will be transferred to FSU, which will then lease the facilities back to TMH through a 40-year operating agreement. The hospital will transition its brand to FSU Health, while continuing to operate under its existing management and preserving its community mission.
The partnership will expand specialized care in North Florida, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for advanced treatment, while also maintaining TMH’s existing charity care policy for uninsured and underinsured patients. 🏥
For students and researchers, the academic health center opens doors to dynamic educational pathways, residency programs, and groundbreaking clinical research. Construction is already underway on a new 140,000 sq.ft. FSU Health Research Center, set to open in 2026.
Leaders from both institutions emphasized the shared goal of training and retaining the next generation of health professionals, expanding access to underserved and rural communities, and fueling economic growth - positioning Tallahassee and North Florida as future destinations for advanced health care and innovation. ✨

⚙️ Miami Tech Works Builds Stronger Talent Pipeline Through Work-Based Learning. | Refresh Miami
Miami Tech Works and its Tech Talent Coalition have already trained or enrolled 3,000+ students and residents through programs supported by a $10M federal grant. Since launch, 472 people have secured tech jobs, with the initiative on track to hit 500 placements by this month.
At a recent gathering at Miami Dade College, leaders stressed the value of work-based learning - from sprinternships to short-term projects - that give students hands-on experience. Programs like the EPIC Challenge, where students tackled AI projects for local companies, are expanding after strong success.
AI was a major focus, as demand for skills has skyrocketed in just one year. In 2024, no local postings required AI; by 2025, nearly 1,000 job ads listed it as a must-have, across fields like HR, logistics, marketing, and design - making AI one of the fastest-growing requirements. 📈
Students and employers are also gaining access to fresh opportunities, including the Employer-Sponsored AI Training Program that offers free scholarships for upskilling. Big events like ShellHacks, Florida’s largest student-run hackathon, recently happened at Florida International University and further connected talent with companies. 🏢
Beyond training, the coalition’s working groups are tackling long-term ecosystem needs. These include helping small businesses grow their tech capacity, improving soft skills, and branding Miami as a hub for innovation to ensure the pipeline keeps growing beyond the initial grant.
