FL 2026

⚖️ Florida is starting 2026 with a wave of new laws that kick in on Jan. 1— covering everything from animal welfare to healthcare, insurance, and transparency. | FOX 35 Orlando
🧐 Key changes include:
Animal cruelty registry: A searchable public database of individuals convicted of animal cruelty will be posted online by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, strengthening transparency and accountability.
Pet insurance rules: Pet insurance is now regulated under state law, requiring clearer disclosures on coverage and claims, and tightening consumer protections.
Breast exam coverage: State health plans for employees must cover diagnostic and supplemental breast exams without cost-sharing, reducing out-of-pocket costs.
Insurance claim timelines: Health insurers and HMOs now have a 12-month limit (down from 30 months) to seek reimbursement from licensed psychologists for overpaid claims.
Patient refunds: Healthcare providers must refund any overpayments within 30 days of identifying the error or face potential fines or disciplinary action.
💡 More new laws—spanning consumer protections, housing rules, and more—will take effect throughout 2026, so residents are encouraged to review changes that may impact their daily lives.
