Former Arizona Governor and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, President of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, announced the 54 college students from 49 U.S. colleges and universities selected as 2025 Truman Scholars. Founded by Congress in 1975 as a tribute to President Harry S. Truman and a national monument dedicated to public service, the Truman Scholarship upholds the legacy of the 33rd President by encouraging and empowering the upcoming generation of public service leaders. Currently, the 54 awardees join a community of 3,618 Truman Scholars recognized since the inaugural awards in 1977.
Ashley Adirika, who is currently a junior at Harvard University, has received the Truman Scholarship — a $30,000 grant given to college students who represent the “future of public service leadership.” 🤩
Adirika, a Pforzheimer House resident who studies government and has served as co-president of the Harvard Undergraduate Association, intends to pursue a JD-MPP and ultimately aims to work in the field of criminal justice. | The Harvard Crimson
She made waves in 2022 by gaining admission to all 8 Ivy League universities. It was a surreal moment for the 17-year-old at the time, whose mother had emigrated from Nigeria to the U.S. many years prior. She completed her secondary education at Miami Beach Senior High School. While in high school, she founded Our Story Our Worth, an organization dedicated to offering mentorship, fostering confidence, and building sisterhood among girls and young women of color. | CNN
