🗓️🫡 TSC's Annual African American History Calendar Honorees

  • Tallahassee State College (TSC) has released its 26th annual Cherry Hall Alexander African American History Calendar. This year's theme, "A Century of Impact: African Americans in the Military," recognizes men and women who have bravely defended our nation and continue to uplift our local communities.

  • Free calendars are still available to the public until Feb. 13 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Hinson Administration Building on TSC’s main campus.

  • Cherry Hall Alexander, former director of the college’s Library Services, founded the calendar initiative in 2001 and led Black History Month events before retiring in 2009. TSC held an unveiling ceremony on Jan. 26, where this year’s honorees received their awards and calendars.

  • This year's honorees: John R. Nelson, Sr. (President's Award), Darryl Hall (February), Cedrick Foster (March), Jessie Clayton (April), Heather Marie Mitchell (May), David Johnson (June), Joe E. Alexander (July), Dr. Marcy Muldrow Sanders (August), Joseph Williams (September), Tonja Fitzgerald (October), Jarvis V. Rosier, Sr. (November), Dr. Pia S. Woodley (December), and Tariq R. 🤒🏥 Measles Cases Surge in Florida as State Tracker Falls Behind | Tal Dem

  • Measles cases in Florida are increasing faster than the state Department of Health (DOH) data indicates. As of Feb. 5, 2026, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Report, the most recent count shows 13 cases.

  • The U.S. also reported 733 confirmed measles cases across 17 states, including Florida, according to the CDC. 95% of the 733 measles cases were in unvaccinated people. About 28% of cases were in children under 5, and 57% were in children and teens aged 5 to 19.

  • Although DOH’s latest reports list only a handful of confirmed cases, local reports indicate additional infections in places such as Hillsborough, Manatee, Duval, and St. Johns counties among residents across various age groups.

  • Measles remains highly contagious and public health officials emphasize vigilance. The virus spreads easily through airborne contact, and health authorities continue to stress the importance of early detection, vaccination, and public awareness to limit further transmission.
