Leon Entrepreneurship and Adversity Program (LEAP) is a 10-month initiative aimed at supporting individuals in the Big Bend region, specifically Leon, Wakulla, and Gadsden counties, who face economic or other hardships by helping them start or grow their own businesses. The program is delivered through a collaboration between the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship and the Jim Moran Institute at FSU, together with local nonprofits, government bodies, small businesses, and university partners.
The program starts with a Community Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs, held over 6 consecutive Saturday mornings in the fall, followed by 18 weeks of mentoring (starting November 2025) and 14 weeks of consulting (beginning Spring 2026). The application deadline is September 27. | Apply now
The program costs $500, but a $475 scholarship is available for those with financial need. All applicants are considered for the scholarship. The $25 fee is due at the time of acceptance into the program or on the first day of the program (if previously agreed with the Program Directors). Payment information will be made available upon program acceptance.
🥳 Fun Fact: Julia’s mentee, Jacob Moreno of There and Back Again Travel, has received a LEAP micro-grant for the 2024-2025 program. | JMI IG

Here are the takeaways of his interview with Julia:
Tallahassee's Entrepreneurial + Tech Ecosystem: Bill emphasizes the value of collaboration between local institutions, nonprofits, and businesses in driving progress. While Tallahassee is on the path to becoming a tech hub, it requires intentional preparation, ranging from infrastructure development to strong community support. The ultimate aim is to attract and retain high-growth tech companies in the region.
Power of Storytelling: Sharing small wins and community stories builds momentum and showcases local talent.
Finding Your Entrepreneurial Home: Bill encourages founders to seek out environments, like Domi, where they can grow, connect, and thrive. Entrepreneurs need a supportive community where they feel they belong.
