✈️🧳 Already Booked for the Holidays? Flight Attendants Share their Top Tips for Getting Through Holiday Travel. | Thrillist

Top tips from FAs:

  1. Save money on the ground – Travel can be pricey, but flight attendant-turned-pilot Carly Chamerlik shares a simple hack: skip airport rideshares. “Rides from airport property often cost more and take longer,” she says. Instead, hop on a free hotel shuttle and call your ride from there—she once saved nearly $50 this way. Just remember a small cash tip for the shuttle driver.

  2. Stash some snacks before you go – Airport food can be overpriced and chaotic, so bring protein bars or simple snacks ahead of time. Cabin air is very dry, so bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. There are several refillable water stations in gate areas.

  3. Pack any necessities in your carry-on – Keep medications and essentials like toiletries in an easily accessible carry-on, especially if delays strike. Even if not delayed, Peterson, president of TWU Local 556, suggests packing meds and electronics in a small bag in case your luggage is gate-checked. An extra jacket or warm layer is also smart, particularly if you need to board or exit the plane outside the terminal.

  4. Pack strategically – Flight attendant Ally Case advises keeping packing simple. “Pack outfits by day, use packing cubes, stick to neutral basics, and roll clothes instead of folding,” she says. A well-packed personal item can also help you avoid checked bag fees.

  5. Stay plugged in – Make sure your devices are ready before your flight. Fully charge earbuds and electronics, bring a portable charger, and download movies or games ahead of time.

  6. Bring face masks and sanitizer for your flight – With mask mandates lifted, airlines no longer provide masks, so it’s wise to bring your own to stay healthy. Case suggests wiping down your seat, tray table, armrests, screen, and seatbelt, and boosting immunity beforehand with vitamin C or ginger shots.
