🎶🎨 First-Ever Anhinga Music & Art Festival | TLH Downtown
Tallahassee Downtown came alive last weekend for the debut of the Anhinga Music & Art Festival, transforming the streets into a vibrant celebration of sound, color, and creativity. The festival brought together a diverse lineup of local and regional musicians, captivating live art demonstrations, and an array of vendors showcasing everything from handcrafted goods to delicious bites. There was a great turnout for the typically empty Kleman Plaza.
The anhinga – often called the “snakebird” for its long, slender neck, is a water bird known for its graceful swimming, striking appearance, and unique way of drying its wings in the sun. 💦🐦⬛ Unlike many water birds, it swims with its body submerged, its neck curving above the water like a periscope, then emerges to spread its wings wide. Relating it to the festival, it embodies the bird’s spirit of grace, uniqueness, and bold display. Just as an anhinga rises from the water and opens its wings, the festival emerged onto Tallahassee’s cultural scene with a vibrant spread of music, art, and community energy, showcasing local talent in full color and inviting everyone to soak in the creative sunshine.

🎙️ Nick and David on CityClips Live Ep. 91.
Julia had the pleasure of featuring Nick Walker and David Arendt, Co-Founders and Owners of Ology Brewing Co. | CityClips Live Ep. 91
Ology is a Tallahassee-based brewery and distillery founded in 2017, known for its innovative craft beers, small-batch spirits, and creative flavor profiles. 🍺
Here are the takeaways of their interview with Julia:
From Friends to Founders: Nick and David (along with 2 other friends) launched Ology Brewing Co. with a 2,000 sq. ft. Midtown Tallahassee taproom – blending Nick’s brewing creativity with David’s operational know-how.
Growth Milestones: Expanded from 1 to 4 taprooms (3 in Tally, 1 in Tampa), brewed 500+ unique beers, with weekly releases, gained distribution in major retailers across 20+ states, and earned an invite to a top global beer festival in Copenhagen.
Keys to Success: They embrace opportunistic growth by rewriting the playbook when the right opportunity arises, pair award-winning flavors with eye-catching label designs to strengthen their brand, maintain balanced ambition by growing quickly yet sustainably, and drive sales through a three-pronged strategy that builds consumer awareness, influences bartenders, and excites distributors.
Current Focus: They are running a Wefunder campaign to raise $875K for distribution expansion into South Florida, Atlanta, and the greater Southeast.
Entrepreneurial Advice: Nick emphasized the importance of carefully evaluating every opportunity and acting quickly when the right one comes along, while David highlighted that surrounding yourself with trusted people is the foundation of growth.
