Florida State University (FSU) is marking the “Year of Quantum” with major progress through its growing Quantum Initiative, aimed at advancing research that could reshape computing, communication, and medicine. 💊
The university has invested over $20M, hired seven new faculty and 11 postdoctoral fellows, and opened a $126M Interdisciplinary Research and Commercialization Building (IRCB)–a new space built to support cutting-edge quantum research. 🔍
FSU researchers like Stephen Hill and Michael Shatruk are studying lanthanide-based qubits, exploring ways to make quantum computers more stable and efficient.
At the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Professor Wei Guo is leading studies on superfluid helium, a material that could help manage cooling and performance in quantum systems.
Recent grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation, totaling more than $10M— are helping FSU researchers push forward new discoveries in quantum science and technology.

🚀 Florida Startup Summit 2025 | Pablo Casilimas via LI
The Florida Startup Summit, hosted by OneSixOne Ventures on October 17, 2025, at the University of Florida, brought together hundreds of founders, investors, and startup enthusiasts from across the country. The annual event has become a key gathering for Florida’s growing startup ecosystem.
Founders from all over the U.S.—and even as far as the Philippines and Spain—joined the summit, adding a truly global energy to the event. 🌐
The speaker sessions were dynamic and full of bold, contrarian insights from top venture investors. Brandon Woodard, OneSixOne’s analyst, moderated a standout keynote with Michael Patrick Gibson of 1517 Fund, who shared lessons from backing startups like Figma and Ethereum, along with reflections on their biggest misses and what they seek in early founders.
With over 400 attendees, the event offered valuable opportunities for networking, collaboration, and learning from industry leaders shaping the future of innovation. ✨
A big thank-you went to the event’s sponsors–EisnerAmper, Hutchison PLLC, PwC, Montague Law, Richey May, University of Florida-Warrington College of Business (EIC), UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (EIC), UF Innovate, JustWorks, and 35 Mules–for making this year’s summit possible.
