🗣️ FSU Expert Weighs In: How ChatGPT Is Shaping Modern Language | FSU News
Language is shifting fast. Assistant Professor Tom Juzek and his team studied popular tech podcasts and found that since ChatGPT’s release, AI-related buzzwords like “surpass,” “meticulous,” “strategically,” and “intricate” are being used far more often, while their synonyms stayed almost unchanged.
Still in the early stages: Juzek says research is just beginning to understand how much AI may be influencing the way people speak, whether it’s accelerating language change or introducing new patterns.
The impact isn’t all good or bad: Much like social media, AI has both benefits and potential downsides. While it can be a powerful tool, questions remain about its unintended effects on beliefs, behaviors, and communication. 📧
Behind the words, there’s a process: His research also digs into why models like ChatGPT tend to overuse certain terms, pointing to how training data and objectives shape the chatbot’s style.
What’s next? For now, the findings are correlational, not proof of causation. Careful testing is still needed to uncover exactly what’s changing in human language — and why.
Fun Fact: Fast Company recently featured Juzek’s article & study.

🫸 Florida’s Big Push to Modernize ERP Systems | GovTech
Florida’s $93M PALM Project is one of the nation’s largest upgrades. The effort will replace systems more than 40 years old, many still running on COBOL, with a modern Oracle-based platform. Payroll, accounting, and cash management will all be consolidated, streamlining how state agencies operate.
The goal is greater efficiency: By phasing out paper forms and email-heavy processes, Florida expects faster, more accurate vendor and employee payments, while also improving how agencies share and access financial data. 📈
Progress hasn’t been without challenges: Scope creep, shifting deadlines, and added customizations have slowed the rollout. Even so, project leaders are confident the system will provide long-term stability and efficiency once fully launched.
Other states are on similar paths: Rhode Island is preparing to launch its new ERP system in fall 2025, and South Dakota’s Project BISON is scheduled for 2027. Florida’s scale and early investment, however, make it a notable example of modernization in action. ✨
