Wendy Plant, FSU administrator, receives prestigious recognition from The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) for helping students, and peers in entrepreneurship success.

  • Wendy received the highest recognition the organization gives to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development, furtherance, and benefit of small and medium businesses.

  • Since 1986, only 98 educators, researchers, government officials, small business advocates, and trade association leaders have been selected.

  • She is an assistant dean of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, as a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow

SHIRAH BENARDE

Brother-sister duo, Michael and Shirah Benarde are the cofounders of NightCap. They earned a spot on the 2024 Under 30 Retail & Ecommerce list. NightCap sells hair scrunchies that unfold into drink covers to prevent roofies and other unwanted substances from being dropped in a cup.

  • With growing education around the topic of drink safety, the duo has generated quite a community of customers since their 2020 launch.

  • 50% of their revenue is from direct-to-consumer sales, with TikTok being a significant driver. NightCap has 470,000 followers on TikTok, with some videos hitting 20 to 40 million views.

  • They’ve also partnered with dating app Bumble, which customized a couple of hundred scrunchies to give out to their brand ambassadors, and most recently, retailer Forever 21, which purchased 8,500 scrunchies to sell at 400 retail stores starting this month. | Forbes

Sharon Walker, the president of Tallahassee Community College Chapter of the Association of Florida Colleges, has been selected as a Marshall/Official for the 2024 US Olympic Committee Team Trials Marathon in Orlando, Florida.

  • She has been involved with the Association of Florida College (AFC) for over nine years having served in leadership positions including Region Director as well as TCC Chapter President. During her tenure as Region Director, the region was named Region of the Year.
