Florida Broadband Office Appoints New Leadership to Leandro Garcia. He will lead Florida's efforts to expand broadband Internet access throughout the state. 📶
Garcia will help carry out the office’s mission of working with local and state government agencies, community organizations and private businesses to increase broadband Internet access throughout the state.
Former deputy director for the Florida Department of Commerce and former program administrator for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

FAMU Launches the Rattlerverse: The First HBCU Metaverse Inside Meta Horizon Worlds. Florida A&M University (FAMU) is breaking new ground in higher education by introducing the Rattlerverse. 🌎
Rattlerverse is the first official Metaverse for an HBCU within Meta Horizon Worlds.
This immersive virtual world offers a futuristic opportunity to explore FAMU’s campus, culture, and current events.
Provides visitors with an array of experiences, including playing football on the Rattlerverse field, marching like a FAMU Marching “100” Band Drum Major, even taking the stage in the Rattlerverse edition of Will Packer’s Amphitheater.
Can be accessed through Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro headsets.

🌇 The 12 Cities Being Recognized for Strong Data Work. America has awarded a dozen new cities for the quality of work with data to inform policy, engage residents, allocate funding and improve municipal services. | Govtech
The newly certified cities include five from the U.S. (Alexandria, Va.; New York City; Port St. Lucie, Florida; Rochester, Minn.; Rock Hill, S.C.) and seven from Latin America: Bogotá, Colombia; Luján de Cuyo, Argentina; Medellín, Colombia; Monterrey, Mexico; Recife, Brazil; Rionegro, Colombia; and Tres de Febrero, Argentina.
74 cities have now achieved the certification, with more than 160 cities having submitted applications since 2017.
In 2022, the program evolved to mandate that cities demonstrate that they are managing their data with equity in mind. New criteria helps ensure that data is not just driving city work, but also meeting the unique needs of all residents.
