Energy resilience: FAMU-FSU College of Engineering professor will improve electric grid cybersecurity with $2.9M Department of Energy award.
Assistant Professor Olugbenga Moses Anubi’s project “Concurrent Learning Cyber-Physical Framework for Resilient Electric Power System,” or CyberPREPS, will allow energy transmission systems to keep functioning in the wake of cyberattacks.
Electricity powers the modern world, but the grid that moves electricity around the country is vulnerable to cyberattacks by malicious actors and failure brought on by natural disasters or accidents.
Anubi will lead a team that includes researchers from FSU and the University of North Carolina, industry partners Nhu Energy in Tallahassee and General Electric’s Global Research Center (GRC) in New York, and utility partner New York Power Authority
The Department of Energy (DOE) is providing funding for the research through its Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), valued at $2 million, and the cost-share valued at approximately $887,000.

Tampa's CIO and CTO Steps Down After 12 Years of Service. Longtime Tampa Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer Russell Haupert is retiring, ending his 12-year tenure with the city.
During his tenure, Russell oversaw 128 employees within the city’s Technology and Innovation Department, along with a $27 million accelerated applications and infrastructure portfolio replacement.
He announced his decision via LinkedIn.

Opinion: Florida Can Act on Politicians Misleading With AI. Florida is among the states that are considering regulating the use of this technology, with lawmakers having filed at least three bills ahead of the 2024 Legislative Session.
Lawmakers have filed at least three bills ahead of the 2024 Legislative Session starting this month. The most consequential of them would be Senate Bill 850.
This can protect voters from fake but realistic images and audio.
AI has its many positive uses but it jeopardizes our understanding of reality and facts.
