Legacy Hall at Florida State University: A $160M Collegiate Gothic-style building is under construction at FSU to house the College of Business. The Mark at Tallahassee: A luxury student housing complex, just a 14-minute walk to campus, will offer 859 fully furnished units, ranging from studios to 6 bedrooms. Amenities include a rooftop clubhouse, pool, fitness center, and gourmet kitchens, with completion expected by August 2025 at 675 W Lafayette St. | FSU

Buc-ee’s Convenience Store: Texas-based Buc-ee’s plans to open a 75k sq. ft. store in Tallahassee with 120 fueling stations and ample parking, creating around 200 jobs. The permit application, submitted in February 2025, is under review, and no official opening date has been announced. | Tal Dem

Wawa Convenience Store: Wawa has opened its third location in Tallahassee at 3534 Thomasville Road, marking its 300th store in Florida. Known for made-to-order sandwiches and coffee, the chain plans to expand further in the region. | Tal Dem

Tallahassee Senior Center: A new 3,716 sq. m. senior center is being built on Welaunee Boulevard. Part of the City of Tallahassee's Parks and Recreation Department, it will feature pickleball and basketball courts and is set to open by Q4 2025, serving the city's aging population. | Tallahassee Magazine

Southwood Neighborhood Expansion: Leon County has approved the redesignation of 304 acres in Southwood for 1,126 new homes. The plan also includes a town center with 50 hotel rooms and 12 apartments above commercial spaces. With a total investment of $1.13B, the initiative covers major projects like the Southside Transit Center, South Monroe “SoMo” Walls, and the conversion of septic to sewer systems. | WCTV

Governors Inn Renovation: The historic Governors Inn at 209 S. Adams St. went through a multi-million-dollar renovation to become an upscale boutique hotel. An upscale bar, "The Locker and Bar," will be part of the revamped establishment.

SoMo Walls Redevelopment: A 2.3-acre block on South Monroe St. was transformed into a vibrant retail and commercial space. The development features 10-foot walls for artwork, large sidewalks, and businesses like Burn Boot Camp and a distillery. This spot is now home to The Monroe and Foxtail Coffee.

Northwood Project: The Northwood project is advancing with infrastructure work, including roads, utilities, and stormwater systems. Railroad Avenue Improvements Project: The City of Tallahassee launched this project on November 27, 2023, to improve safety and mobility. The project, expected to finish in 2025, includes utility, roadway, and sidewalk upgrades, a multi-use trail, landscaped medians, new pedestrian crossings, road repaving, and the relocation of overhead electric lines underground. Why it matters: Despite widespread economic pessimism, Americans are still traveling to mark the unofficial start of summer.

"Despite concerns over rising prices, many Americans say they're taking advantage of the long holiday weekend to spend time with loved ones, even if the trips are closer to home," AAA said in a statement.

By the numbers: 45.1M people are expected to travel at least 50 mi. from home between May 22 and May 26, up 1.4M from 2024, surpassing the 44M in 2005.

Zoom in: 87% (39.4M) will travel by car, while air travel is expected to rise 2% to 3.61M passengers, not breaking a record. 2.08M will travel by train, bus, or cruise.
