🚀 SpaceX Bandwagon-3 Launch Lights Up the Space Coast with Sonic Boom. | Florida Today

  • On the evening of April 21 at 8:48 PM, SpaceX launched its Bandwagon-3 rideshare mission from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40. This marked the second Falcon 9 launch of the day, thrilling spectators across Florida’s Space Coast with a spectacular liftoff and landing.

  • Just over eight minutes after launch, the Falcon 9 first-stage booster returned to Landing Zone 2, creating a loud and unmistakable sonic boom that echoed across nearby communities. The sonic event, while startling for some, signaled a successful landing close to home.

  • Bandwagon-3 carried a collection of innovative small payloads into orbit, including:

    • 🛰️ 425Sat-3 from South Korea’s ADD (Agency for Defense Development)

    • 🌦️ Tomorrow-S7 from Tomorrow Companies Inc., which uses AI and satellite data to improve resilience against weather threats

    • 🧪 PHOENIX 1 from Atmos Space Cargo, a prototype re-entry capsule designed to safely return life science cargo from space

  • The Bandwagon series of rideshare missions gives private companies and government agencies a chance to send small satellites and tech to space without the cost of booking an entire launch, making access to space more affordable and frequent.

  • As part of the build-up, SpaceX’s webcast and countdown updates kept enthusiasts engaged throughout the evening. With 95% favorable weather and pinpoint timing, the launch demonstrated SpaceX’s growing momentum and reliability in the commercial spaceflight arena.
