Future Ready Tallahassee. In today’s edition, we’re featuring two outstanding all-girls teams excelling in LEGO robotics, and how Project Annie gives back to the community during Thanksgiving. On another exciting note, Julia Holly’s interview with TSC’s Chief Engagement Officer, Dr. Angela Long went so well that they mutually agreed to have another episode in the near future.

In November, the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifier took place at Maclay School, where 10 teams from Leon County Schools out of 25 teams earned their spots to compete in the regionals at Florida High in January. Among them, the all-girls teams, The Valkyries and The Amazons, made it to regionals. | Leon County Schools IG Post
Lester Hutt serves as the co-coach for both The Valkyries and The Amazons, with his daughters Meisa and Midori being members of each team. Although The Valkyries are newcomers to LEGO robotics, they are already making impressive strides in the field. Lester aims to inspire more girls to explore STEM fields, helping them build confidence to thrive in this male-dominated path.

PROJECT ANNIE

For 26 years, Project Annie has continued to make an impact, particularly during the recent Thanksgiving celebration. | WTXL
Project Annie, founded by Annie Johnson, has a longstanding tradition of hosting a Thanksgiving feeding program. This year, with the help of dedicated volunteers, she served nearly 2,000 neighbors—a significant increase from the 150 individuals she served when the program first began. For Annie, "It lets them know that I care enough to celebrate Thanksgiving with them."
After helping others for many years through feeding, Annie wanted to expand the help by opening a nursery school. "They need somewhere to go so the parents can go to work," said Annie.
Annie’s Nursery School is currently hiring as well as accepting applications for enrollment. Donations are also welcome to support them in offering the best education and family services for infants, children, and low-income families. | Learn More
