Got Motivation? We could use some, especially on a Monday. We caught some clips of opportunities to contribute to our community schools via book drive, as well as to those impacted by Helene through Second Harvest. While we help our community pick up the pieces post-Helene, we are looking at resources for our Tampa Bay friends. Additionally, we'd like to highlight the upcoming developments at Tallahassee International Airport. ✨

PROMOTE LITERACY

📚 Let’s encourage a passion for reading and promote literacy in our community by supporting The Big Book Give. | Alva Smith FB Post
Leon County School Board member Alva Smith, supported by KPMG, organized The Big Book Give which aims to close the gap on the number of books in the community’s elementary schools.
Ways to support:
Donate new or like new children’s books at any Capital City Bank location in Tallahassee through November 30th. 📖
Purchase or drop off a new book at Midtown Reader. Midtown Reader is offering a 20% discount on any book purchased and donated to the Big Book Give through November 30th.
Donate through this link. Your monetary contribution will directly impact literacy in all parts of the community. It will enable Leon County Title I elementary schools to purchase books that meet the needs of their school community.

GRANTS
$20.3M FOR TIA

🛬 The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded the City of Tallahassee with $20.3 million in grant funding. | Tal Gov
The grant funding aims to support two critical infrastructure projects at Tallahassee International Airport – enhancements to Taxiway Bravo and the terminal's central utility plant.
"We set a goal five years ago to increase our receipt of annual grant awards as part of our focus on strong fiscal stewardship practices, and I could not be prouder of the results the team has achieved," City Manager Reese Goad said. "Through our aggressive approach to identify and apply for competitive state and federal grants, we have brought over $300 million dollars to our community since 2020, which exceeds the total amount of property taxes received by the City during the same period."
The FAA has allocated $20.3 million, with $17 million designated for the restoration of Taxiway Bravo, which runs parallel to TLH's main runway 9-27. This funding is one of the largest grants given in Florida. The remaining $3.3 million will be used to upgrade the airport terminal's main and secondary chilled water system within its central utility plant, supporting the continuous efforts to modernize the terminal.

HELENE SUPPORT

Second Harvest of the Big Bend is working around the clock to provide food, water, and essential supplies to those affected by the storm. The Big Bend area is in desperate need of assistance to replenish nutritious meals as they are having difficulty keeping up with the supply. The team on the ground has been working tirelessly to address the community's needs, as the requirement for emergency food aid has surged during this critical period.
Second Harvest has given out more than 500,000 pounds of food and now requires more supplies. They have been working both on weekends and weekdays, most recently in Mayo, FL.
Their service counties to the east - Taylor, Madison, Dixie, Lafayette, and Columbia are devastated. Many of these areas were still recovering from Idalia.
Let's support our less fortunate neighbors by donating whatever you can to assist in this initiative. Every dollar is valuable during these difficult times and will be utilized to provide food for those in need! 💝 | Donate
