Piersica wins Shell Grant for Battery Tech. Piersica has received a grant from Shell GameChanger to accelerate the development of their innovative solid-state battery technology. | Business Wire

  • Piersica Inc. received a grant from Shell GameChanger to boost their solid-state battery technology. The company's technology focuses on enhancing battery technology through new materials. Key innovations include a new lithium-conductive polymer and a high-conductive solid polymer electrolyte layer.

  • Piersica aims to achieve a battery with an energy density of 630 Wh/kg, much higher than current lithium-ion batteries. Shell GameChanger supports early-stage ideas for commercialization in the energy sector.

  • Claudiu Bucur, CEO of Piersica, believes the grant will accelerate their path to commercialization. Shell GameChanger was founded in 1996 to support businesses with transformative energy ideas.

ECOSYSTEM REPORT + MIAMI

Miami at the top in Global startup ecosystem report 2024. Miami has moved up seven places and is now ranked 16th in the 2024 Global Startup Ecosystem Report, solidifying its position among the top startup ecosystems globally. | Refresh Miami

  • Miami moved up an impressive seven places in the 2024 Global Startup Ecosystem Report. The report includes research and insights from over 300 entrepreneurial ecosystems and 4.5 million startups.

  • Miami's ranking is based on scoring in five areas, with its highest scores in Performance and Funding. Miami's performance was boosted by a 28% increase in large exits from the previous year. The Miami metro area's exits were led by Redzone Software and Freightos.

  • The report suggests that Miami needs to focus on boosting university programs and attracting high-talent students to improve its ranking. Out of the six active unicorns in Miami, it ranks 12th among US ecosystems. Miami's ecosystem is valued at $95 billion.

Best of Florida 2024 awards. The Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee IT departments were awarded for Best IT Collaboration at Government Technology’s Digital Government Summit for the CAD project. | Best of Florida

  • Michelle Taylor, Chief Information Officer for Leon County Government, is proud of the collaboration between the County's Office of Information Technology and the City's Technology & Innovation Office.

  • The CAD program is used by the Consolidated Dispatch Agency to communicate 911 and other calls for assistance with multiple agencies. The collaboration resulted in additional functionality and system enhancements for improved service to citizens.

  • The Multiple Agency Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Project was awarded for its successful upgrade to the dispatch system. The award signifies the high level of Information Technology partnership between different agencies, benefiting taxpayers with efficient services.

Eric Hayden appointed as Tampa CIO and CTO. The City of Tampa has conducted a nationwide search to fill both positions, resulting in 93 candidates. | GovTech

  • Eric Hayden has been appointed as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer for the City of Tampa.

  • His predecessor, Russell Haupert, stepped down in January, leading to a nationwide search with 93 candidates for these roles.

  • Hayden started his career with the city as an application systems analyst and has progressed through various roles within IT.
