Did you know? The earliest technology developed by humans was stone tools. It’s crazy how we went from stone tools to electric-powered cars, flying drones with cameras, and a light bulb that can warn you from dangerous lightning. This is all happening in Tallahassee and Florida. With the recent tornado storms, we would love to see how local officials are exploring better procedures and tech solutions for future preparations.

LIFE-SAVING DRONE

Can a 911 drone stop your bleeding? It’ll fly to Florida emergencies for DIY rescues. Manatee County is partnering with Tampa General Hospital on a program that will be the first in the nation to deliver life-saving supplies via drone. | GovTech
The drone carries a defibrillator, a tourniquet, or naloxone, an opioid-overdose antidote to emergency scenes. The program is meant to reduce response times for life-threatening situations.
The government program, which has been cleared by the Federal Aviation Administration, is a partnership with Tampa General Hospital and Archer First Response Systems. The county expects the drone to deliver medical supplies in about one minute and 45 seconds to two minutes and 10 seconds.
Over the next year, the county, TGH and ArcherFRS will evaluate the program’s effectiveness to determine how it can be used to serve more residents across the state.

BRIGHTSTICK

Weatherstem, an innovative weather intelligence company based in Tallahassee, has a new initiative called Bright: Weather-Controlled Lighting. | Weatherstem
BrightStick is a portable battery powered device with a light bulb that connects to your phone or a WiFi network and the bulb is easily configured to turn on and any color imaginable based on proximity to lightning, heat conditions, and NWS severe weather alerts.
The light can be configured to blink, pulse, and you can manually control it. Your BrightStick can be stuck in the ground, attached to a pole, or placed on a stand. When you're done with it, put it in its protective case and throw it in the trunk and drive off to your next venue.
BrightStick will be on sale at their website in the near future. Check back for updates or contact them today with any questions.
