Earley's Kitchen reopens after renovations. City commissioners, community leaders, and chamber of commerce members gathered to celebrate the reopening of Tallahassee southside landmark on South Monroe after a one-year closure. | Tal Dem

  • The Earley's Kitchen closed in February of last year to complete renovations to both its interior and exterior. The entire restaurant got a facelift with a new logo change and more with the help of a grant from the Community Redevelopment Agency.

  • The eatery stood the test of time, conquering the often-uphill battle unique to Black-owned businesses, operating for more than 44 years out of its location at 1458 S. Monroe St.

  • They will continue serving its usual classic soul-food-style sandwiches, meats and breakfast specialties. The new bar, weekend brunch and dinner services will be introduced soon. | IG FB

NFL DRAFT

Tallahassee’s Terrion Arnold makes history as Detroit Lions first-round pick in 2024 NFL draft | AL.Com

  • Terrion Arnold’s path to success hasn’t been without challenges. He changed Tallahassee high schools, fractured his ankle, thought basketball might be his primary sport over football, and did not become a full-time starter at Alabama until midway through the 2022 season. | Tal Dem

  • He became one of Tallahassee’s highest selections in the NFL Draft when the Detroit Lions filled their biggest need on defense by moving up five spots in the first round to select Arnold with the 24th overall pick.

  • He is the first defensive back from Alabama to be taken in the first round since Patrick Surtain II (2021, ninth to Denver).
