The future of bankrupt electric motorbike startup Cake is still uncertain, but the majority of its U.S. inventory is going to a guy in Florida. 🛵 | TechCrunch

  • Michael Joyce, who runs a retail shop in St. Petersburg called Emoto, was surprised by Cake's bankruptcy, seeing it as a risk due to Emoto's exclusive focus on the brand. Purchasing the inventory provides him with a 6 to 12 months buffer to secure deals with other electric motorbike manufacturers.

  • Joyce aims to support the Swedish brand's survival through his purchase, emphasizing consumer confidence, he told TechCrunch.

  • He bought all Cake Makka and Ösa motorbikes shipped stateside along with accessories and spare parts.

The Florida Aquarium opened a 4,200-square-foot expansion of its Coral Conservation and Research Center in Apollo Beach. 🪸 | Axios

  • "Our ability to not only protect the corals in our care but also to spawn them and rear thousands of babies with new and unique genetic combinations, is more important than ever given the threats these animals are facing in the wild," stated Keri O'Neil, The Florida Aquarium's senior scientist and coral conservation program director, in a press release.

  • Bottom Line: More tanks for researchers = More Baby Corals = A better chance of survival in our hot tub of an ocean.

FL’S EVERGLADES

The largest restoration project in human history is underway in Florida's Everglades. 🏞️ Billions of dollars are being spent to restore millions of acres. | CBS Mornings

  • Steven Davis, Chief Science Officer of the Everglades Foundation says, $25 billion is a kind of investment needed to fix decades to one of the world’s great wonders.

  • What happened to the Everglades? They disconnected Lake Okeechobee from the Everglades ecosystem. For decades South Florida just hasn’t gotten enough water.

  • 3 million acres take up greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere when it’s hydrated which is what Everglades restoration does. Sequestering carbon is an important functional value of the Everglades. It’s the water supply for more than 9 million Americans.

  • Lawrence Glenn, Division Director of Water Resources says, “The reservoir is scheduled to be done by 2030. By 2040, you start to see Everglades that really look like Everglades.”

Chick-fil-A loosens its antibiotics-in-chicken stance.🥤🍗 | Morning Brew

  • Chick-fil-A said that it’s backtracking on the “No Antibiotics Ever” stance it instituted in 2019, and will allow some antibiotics in its chicken starting this spring.

  • It has to bend its own rules to find the quantity of antibiotic-free chicken it needs for its restaurants.

Interesting Facts:

  • Chick-fil-A is a fast food restaurant staple in the Southeast.  Texas has the most Chick-fil-A locations, with 460 in the state. States such as Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina have a tremendous number of Chick-fil-A restaurants scattered all over the area. | World Population Review
