COLLEGE OF AI

The University of South Florida revealed the plan to establish a college of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and computing. It will be the first of its kind in Florida and among the first in the nation. | Axios

  • It aims to establish Tampa Bay, which is the center of the Tech industry in Florida, to take the lead in AI.

  • The U.S. is experiencing a “five-fold increase in the demand for AI skills" and a shortage of qualified talent.

  • 200 USF faculty members are already researching AI related subjects.

  • University officials hope to launch the new college in Fall 2025.

FAB LAB

FAMU opens "Fab Lab" which offers skill training to students and the community. The Fab Lab will be free for K-12 students and FAMU students, and will soon open to the public. | WTXL Tallahassee

  • Fab Lab offers skill training in areas like woodshop, textiles, vinyl printing, 3D printing, robotics, and laser engraving with an aim to increase entrepreneurship.

  • Currently open to just FAMU students and will soon open to K-12 students for free, and to the wider community at a price per hour or by material.

SOLAR ENERGY

Solar-paneled canopies will be the new project at TCC main campus. It is a part of new sustainable energy project initiatives and efforts of Tallahassee Community College approved by the Board of Trustees. | Tal Dem

  • Fitzgerald Collaborative Group is the project architect and CSI Contracting will act as the contractor. The project costs a guaranteed maximum price of $1.5 million.

  • TCC initiative will provide nearly 8,000 feet of covered walkways from the bus loop on campus to the Tallahassee Collegiate Academy.

  • “This solar walkway is a continuation of our sustainability efforts at TCC,” said Barbara Wills, TCC’s Vice President for Administrative Services and Chief Business Officer.

  • TCC has sustainable initiatives through its educational programs as well, which include a partnership with the Southeast Solar Training Network — a program that makes alternative energy training available throughout the southeastern U.S. and territories.
