HBCU CLEAN ENERGY

FAMU Among Winners of DOE’s HBCU Clean Energy Education Prize Partnerships Track. FAMU scored first prize wins in the Partnerships Track as well as the Inspire Track. | FAMU News
The HBCU Clean Energy Education Prize comprises two tracks: the Inspire Track is focused on developing HBCU-hosted clean energy summer or academic break programs for K-12 and community college students, while the Partnerships Track is focused on expanding curriculum and resources for undergraduate and graduate HBCU students.
Under the Partnerships Track, FAMU and each of the other 9 winning teams received $100,000 to support clean energy programming and professional opportunities for students.
In Phase 1 of the Inspire Track, FAMU and 9 other HBCUs were awarded $40,000 for their impressive work designing clean energy-focused academic break programs. Phase 2 will be concluded this summer, while Phase 3 will follow and conclude in January 2025.

FSU BUSINESS TEAMS

FSU College of Business teams take first, third in FSU/SouthState Bank case competition | FSU
Student teams from the FSU College of Business took first place and third place in the Second Annual FSU/SouthState Bank Small Business Case Competition at the Turnbull Florida State Conference Center.
The competition drew 17 teams from 11 academic institutions throughout the Southeastern United States. FSU’s team won the competition and a $1,500 first-place prize. The university’s team placed third and won $750.
A team from the University of Alabama placed second and won $1,000, while a team from Florida A&M University placed fourth and won $500.
SouthState Bank sponsored the competition, along with Alabama’s Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA). Teams had four weeks to prepare presentations on how the BJCTA could increase ridership and improve operations financially and environmentally.

FASTEST-GROWING AREAS

Nation's Fastest-Growing Areas in Florida
Florida had four of the five fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country from 2022 to 2023 according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau | Florida Trend
The population in the area that includes The Villages retirement community and Wildwood increased by 4.7% from July 1, 2022 to July 1, 2023.
The second-fastest growth rate in the country was in the Lakeland and Winter Haven metro area at 3.8%.
The only area outside of Florida in the top five was the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area, which grew 3.7%.
The Ocala area was fourth-highest at 3.4%, and the Port St. Lucie area was fifth-highest at 3.1%, according to the census data.
