Private Equity Out in Cox-OpenGov Deal, AI Investment Is In. The Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises’ purchased OpenGov, which valued the company at a landmark $1.8 billion, saw it buy out private equity stakes in the firm. | GovTech

  • OpenGov will operate independently under the Cox umbrella, with company leadership intact and Cox keeping its seats on the OpenGov board.

  • Cox has done an excellent job of diversification over the years, building lasting industry-focused businesses in newspapers, radio, cable, automotive, and now state and local government. OpenGov is the expert in this space, and they want to continue providing the autonomy to apply that expertise.

  • OpenGov plans to invest “heavily” in AI for local government, reflecting another Gov tech trend. The company already uses AI in budgeting and procurement.

FSU’S 2024 Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Expo explored latest applications for cutting-edge technology, which took place Feb. 23rd, ‘24. | FSU News

  • AI’s cutting-edge technology focuses on building systems that learn and improve from history and experience rather than through programming. The rapid improvements in AI are having profound impacts on a wide array of industries, including academic research.

  • This year’s expo focused on AI’s emerging role in health care, featuring presentations from professors, researchers and health care experts. Attendees learned about new advancements in AI in health and medicine, heard valuable perspectives during individual presentations and engaged with practitioners in an interactive panel discussion.

  • Concerns were commonly articulated about the potential for AI software to be abused, not least by those most invested in the technology’s development. The expo responded to these concerns and fostered discussion on the importance of responsible use.

  • ICYMI: Here’s the speaker lineup and their topics.
