LEAP DAY

When is Leap Day? Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024. 📆 Why do we have leap years? 🐸 The reason behind that extra day on Feb. 29th is more complicated than you think. | Florida Today
It only comes around once every 4 years and it’s always on February 29. Leap day is essential to ensure that our planet’s trip around the Sun is in sync with the seasons because the Earth takes 365 ¼ days to complete its orbit around the Sun. 🌞
If we don't observe leap years, our seasons will be thrown off. Every 755 years equinoxes and winter solstice would no longer align, so the middle of summer would become the middle of winter and vice versa.
Originally the Roman Calendar was based on the Lunar System and its calendar only had 355 days per year shorter than the solar year drifted out of sync with the seasons. That’s when Julius Ceasar introduced the Julian Calendar, a solar calendar that included the Leap year. The Julian Calendar became the Gregorian Calendar in 1582. The extra day in February every 4 years stuck.
Another fun fact, Leon County School’s staff member Chris Petley recognized 7 “Leapers,” students with a Leap Year Birthday and gave them Smallcakes Cupcakes. | LinkedIn

FL CHAMBER FORECAST

📈 Leon County brings in over $2K per hour to area economy, more than the entire state of Wisconsin in the same timeframe. | WTXL
Leon County added over 4,000 jobs to the local economy in the last year. 1 in every 72 new jobs in Florida is in Leon County.
For every 100 jobs open in the state of Florida, only 83 people are looking for work. In Leon County, only 55 people are vying for those 100 positions.
Leaders with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and Greater Tallahassee Chamber say the county needs to do more work on childhood learning and workforce development.
