Florida Could Claw $40M for Cyber Grants Back to the State. 💸 | GovTech
According to the Office of the State CIO’s budget, $40 million in local government cybersecurity technical assistance grants could be moved back into the state’s general fund, significantly impacting Florida’s Local Government Cybersecurity Grant program.
According to a press release from the Department of Management Services, 66 of the state’s 67 counties applied for grant funding, and 94 percent of awardees agreed to integrate with the State Cybersecurity Operations Center to provide a consolidated view of the threat landscape.
Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez spoke about the program last year during the Florida Public Sector Cybersecurity Summit, stating: “This has been one of our boldest initiatives to date. It was designed to allow local governments to improve their own cyber capabilities regardless of technical expertise.”

Axiom Space plans to launch its fourth mission, Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), to the ISS no earlier than October 2024 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Leon County's first-ever school Esports lab: Nims Middle's tech revolution. 🖥️ Along with an $8-million renovation project for a new cafeteria and gym, financed by the district's capital improvement fund, students will be getting a state-of-the-art Esports lab, the first in the Leon County School District. | TalDem
The lab will be built in the school's media center. It will be equipped with gamer chairs, a 100-inch flat-screen TV and computers. The plan is to start construction on the $500,000 project in March, with hopes of having it completed by August.
Esports, also known as electronic sports, is a competitive style of gaming individually or on a team. The global billion-dollar industry has attracted children and adults alike with video games on sports, military tactics, superheroes and more.
Coupled with the industry certification exams the students take with the school's career and technical education pathway, they hope the lab will give them an extra boost in tech workforce preparation.
